This Means War – Heartstrings

Pirates Press Records & Demons Run Amok Run Amok

When I reviewed This Means War debut S/T EP back in 2017, the only negative comment I had was that it left me wanting more, so when I recently got sent their debut album I was over the moon. What I liked about the EP was it was full of great guitar riffs, killer melodies, and brilliant sing-along choruses and it’s more of the same on the excellent ‘Heartstrings’ which is out now on Pirates Press Records (USA) and Demons Run Amok (Europe).

On ‘Heartstrings’ the Belgium five piece have delivered 11 hard-hitting and catchy street punk anthems which mixes Punk, Oi!, and Melodic Hardcore to great affect and makes for one hell of a listen which is packed full of energy and excitement. The first three songs on the album, ‘Why We Fight’, ‘Pressure’, and ‘Hang ‘em High’ are nothing short of sublime with brilliant melodies, killer riffs which are performed by a band that mean business. If I wasn’t hooked already they deliver an absolute gem in the form of ‘The Unseen’, an excellent sing-along anthem that I just can’t get enough of.

Four songs into the album and the band are on fire but they keep delivering killer anthems with ‘Off With Their Heads’, ‘Greed Is Out’, ‘What Are Friends For’ before the excellent ‘I Found The One’, a song that I guarantee will get you in the mood to go to the Football on a Saturday afternoon.  The album comes to a close with ‘The Hand That Feeds’, ‘Devil in Disguise’, and ‘Forever’, which is yet another sing-along classic and is probably my favourite track.

‘Heartstrings’ is another impressive release by This Means War and if you are fans of bands like Cock Sparrer, Rancid, Street Dogs, The Old Firm Casuals then I recommend that you get yourself a copy of ‘Heartstrings’. We may only be two months into the year but this is my favourite album so far and it will take something special to beat it.
