Since 2013 the City Saints from Gothenburg, Sweden have impressed us with their brand of Street Rock ‘N’ Roll in which they blend Punk, Oi!, Pub Rock, and Rock ‘N’ Roll to great effect. Having released four previous albums they have built a strong fan base across Europe and their live shows are excellent, full of energy and are quite possibly one of the best live bands around. The band have just released ‘På Svenska (In Swedish) through Sunny Bastard Records and is their first in their native language .
If you like your music with bags of energy, short sharp riffs, brilliant melodies then you need ‘På Svenska’ in your record collection. Coming in at just under 28 minutes and featuring 12 tracks the album is nothing short of sublime and I have lost count of how many times I’ve listen to it as its constantly on rotation and will be for some time to come. The band have me hooked from start to finish and the opener ‘Banditer’ sets the tone for the rest of the album which is full of fast paced rockers with great melodies, brilliant guitar riffs and well performed vocals by Stefan.
‘På Svenska’ delivers anthem after anthem is there isn’t a bad track on it with ‘Rock ‘N Roll’, ‘Karma’, ‘Göteborg, ‘Trams’ and ‘Svin’ just some of the highlights. If I was pushed to pick my favourite song it would have to be ‘Enade’, an incredibly melodic gem with an absolute killer chorus and is one of my favourite tracks of the year so far.
I’ve got to say that the City Saints have done it again delivering a fantastic album which blends different styles and influences with brilliant results, so I might not know what they are singing about but that doesn’t matter when the songs are this good. Do yourselves a favour and grab a copy you won’t be disappointed.
