The Landfill Crew are a fictional animated punk rock band set in the 1980’s which has been created by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, reggae veteran Tippa Lee, and J Bonner of the Aggrolites and they have just released the debut self titled EP. This project is nothing short of brilliant and we see Tim Armstrong play the character Bagga, Tippa Lee plays Hux, and characters are brilliantly developed and animated by J Bonner.
The Landfill Crew’s sound mixes punk rock, reggae and ska to great effect and makes for a very enjoyable listen. The EP gets going with ‘Landfill Crew’, a great start which tells the story of the band and the vocals of Tim and Tippa complement each other brilliantly. Next up is the excellent ‘Youth Revolt’ which starts as a straight up punk song sung by Bagga(Tim Armstrong) then after about fifty seconds Hux’s(Tippa Lee) Reggae vocals takes the song to a different level and I love it.
The first two songs on this EP are both great but I have to say that for me the tracks on side B are even better. ‘Poets Of The Night’ is the first one, a Reggae/Ska track followed by the brilliant ‘Worldwide Warfare’, a melodic track and is quite easily my favourite song on the EP.
This is a really impressive release and I would urge you to get a copy but beware this is an extremely limited release so be quick.
