In the last few years, there have been some excellent releases of the classic 80’s sounding Oi! from the likes of B-Squadron, Top Dog, and Brassknuckle, well you can now add Tear Up to this list. Originally self-released as a CD last year, ‘Playground Politics’ has now been picked up by Rebellion Records for a vinyl release. These Watford hooligans don’t take any prisoners on this album as they play no-nonsense, no bollocks, aggressive Oi! and I love it.
Tear up have given us 12 rough around the edges hard-hitting Oi! gems full of cleverly written lyrics that vocalist Jamie Flanagan delivers brilliantly. From the opening track ‘Playground Politics’ the catchy yet brutal sounding tracks keep coming with the likes of ‘King of the Car Park’, ‘Dead Beat Dad’, ‘Dodgy Dave’, and ‘One Of The Faces’ hitting us in the face like we were stood on the terraces back in the 80’s. To finish the album the band have one more treat for us and give us a fantastic cover version of ‘Real Enemy’ by the Business which closes the album brilliantly.
If you are fans of bands like the Cockney Rejects, 4Skins, the Business and newer bands like Top Dog, Brassknuckle and B-Squadron then you need to have this album in your collection. This is a brilliant album and I’m already looking forward to the follow-up.
