Sabbath City Records

It’s not secret that I tend to enjoy the harder side of the punk spectrum and in particular bands that play street punk and hardcore punk but it’s always good to take a break and check bands on the melodic side of the spectrum. This time it’s indie punks Lovebites that have caught my attention with their debut E.P ‘Social Hell’.
The Birmingham 4 piece have a DIY ethos and have funded the recording process themselves as well as deciding to release it on their own Sabbath City Records. Well they should be proud of themselves as ‘Social Hell’ is an enjoyable listen which has elements of The Gaslight Anthem, Jawbreaker, The Replacements with a bit of The Who, The Police and Ryan Adams thrown in for good measure.
There really isn’t a bad track on this E.P and they are well written, catchy as hell, have good choruses and guitars that just sing in your ears. The first 3 songs,’Tick Along’, ‘Duppy’, and ‘Just Fall’ are all good songs but for me the highlight has got to be ‘Social Hell’, a brilliant track with great lyrics and some brilliant guitar playing that takes the song to the next level.
If you like bands like Gaslight Anthem and The Replacements then I would recommend that you check Lovebites out. I will definitely keep an eye on this band as this is a solid start and they could go on to big things.
