Top Dog – Razor Reg

If you are a fan of British bands like The Business, The Last Resort and The 4-Skins, then Carlisle’s Top Dog are a band you need to check out. Following on from last year’s debut album they are back with a four track E.P of raw gritty Oi that sounds like it could’ve come straight from the Eighties.

The title track kicks the E.P off and for me is an absolute classic track, brutal yet melodic, catchy guitar parts that I just can’t get out of my head and a brilliant chorus, you can’t get much better than this. ‘Our Turf’ is next and although it’s not as good as the previous song (how could it be?), it’s still a brilliant song which starts with drums and bass and guitar feedback leading into the first verse which smacks you in the face before the brilliant chorus. The next two tracks ‘The Riff Raff’ and ‘Fear No Foe’ are brilliantly written songs with subjects that people will relate to.

Just when you think that this release can’t get any better the band are about to release a CD version with 3 bonus tracks. The first of these is ‘In The Gutter’, a cracking melodic gem of a song about the delusions of our government who think the economy is getting better while the rest of us are still struggling to feed our families. ‘Doing Time’ is next, a catchy yet powerful song before the E.P comes to an end with ‘The Fight’, a song which has been closing their live set for the last 2 years and is a brilliantly upbeat song to end this fine E.P.

‘Razor Reg’ proves that Top Dog are a band at the top of their game and if they release anything else as good as this we are in for an absolute treat.
