Mob Mentality – Carry On Tradition

Having released their debut E.P ‘No Honor, No Guts, No Glory’ earlier this year, Pennsylvania’s Mob Mentality are just about to release their debut album ‘Carry On Tradition’ and boy what an album it is. The album features 14 powerful yet melodic working class Oi! anthems that will hopefully gain them the recognition that they deserve.

The band aren’t going to break any new ground with this release but what they have done is given us 14 hard hitting singalong Oi! anthems that will no doubt get you singing along to. Kicking off with ‘In The Streets’ which has a guitar line that wouldn’t be out of place on an Iron Maiden album(not a bad thing) before ‘Skinhead’ a powerful yet melodic gem with a belter of a chorus. The hard-hitting ‘Justice’ is next up, a brilliantly written song with powerful lyrics which are complemented by the passionate vocals of Dan Hooligan. 3 songs in and I’m already impressed with the album but things only get better when the title track kicks in, a singalong anthem that I just can’t get enough of. The key messages I get from this album is pride, unity and togetherness which is evident in ‘You’re Not Alone’, ‘Fallen Brother’, and the excellent ‘Working Class Blues’, an anthemic, melodic, sing-along song which everyone can relate to. The second half of the album is equally as good as the first with gems like ‘We Don’t Follow’, ‘Boozin & Brusin’, ‘Coward’, ‘Never Gonna Die’, and ‘Payback’ before the final track ‘Together We Stand’, a tale of friendship and togetherness and is a fitting end to this fine album.

Mob Mentality have just produced a really impressive debut and should be extremely proud of themselves if they release another half as good as this will be in for a treat. If you are a fan of Oi! then I urge you to check this band out, you won’t be disappointed.
