Hailing from Paris, France Hightower play melodic 90’s style punk rock. The band formed in 2012 and released their debut album ‘Sure. Fine. Whatever’ in 2014 which was produced by Steve Evetts. The band used the same producer when they went into the studio again in 2016 to record this fine album ‘Club Dragon’ which is released by Krod Records.
The album gets off to a great start with ‘Numero Uno’ which starts with quiet strums of the acoustic guitar before kicking into a fine melodic pop-punk song. The album continues with ‘Mushrooms & Bamboo’ and ‘Ernest’s Castle before ‘The Party’, a song which could’ve come straight from the 90’s and is probably my favourite song on the album. ‘Club Dragon’ is a well written and well-produced album which is demonstrated by tracks like ‘Hedonic Treadmill’, ‘Tournesol’, ‘Kind Of Blue’ and the excellent ‘KVLT’.
Hightower have produced a fine second album which gets better and better after each listen. If you’re a fan of 90’s pop-punk or punk rock this album is well worth giving a listen to.
